Hopefully you’ve seen our previous Date Night Review. Sorry that this one has been so long coming. We have been putting aside marriage time most weeks, but blogging about it has slipped a bit.
So, I decided that a slightly unusual idea would be to watch a playlist of Youtube videos, rather than a movie. I say decided – I actually saw the idea a while ago online, but I can’t remember where.
So we put the kids to bed, had some food together and settled on the sofa with my Youtube mix. I could tell that Sarah was suspicious of how good an idea it was.
But I think I chose a pretty good mix: supercuts of our favourite TV programs; funny animal videos; parodies of movies that I know we both enjoy; a couple of songs. I tried to keep the tone funny rather than serious.
And I think it worked. We both laughed a lot.
I think the trick is to have the playlist already planned out and ready to go. There’s nothing worse than spending half a night flicking through Youtube trying to find that video of a goat.
Here are Sarah’s thoughts:
What did you think of the idea?
I thought it was a little odd. I wasn’t totally enthralled with the idea. I was unsure how it would work. A little skeptical.
Was it what you expected?
It was actually quite fun. The playlist that Adam had compiled were ‘Youtube’ clips that have provided a foundation in some of dating and married life. There were clips which I had forgot how funny they were and others that conjured up memories of university and very care free times. Some inspirational but mostly downright daft. I would say we have a fairly similar sense in humor, so it worked.
Was it romantic?
Well most the clips were more humorous in their content rather than ‘romantic’. Even though it wasn’t all candles, longing looks and mystery there was a sense of a real appreciation for one another. At the end I thought ‘Wow, I’m so glad I’m married to you. I doubt anyone else would find these things as funny as we do’. This is quite a powerful aphrodisiac when you are reminded of just amazing your spouse is.
Would you do it again?
Yes but not every week. Maybe we just don’t watch enough trending ‘Youtube’ videos but I would soon run out of content. I would share the playlist on here with you but it seems strangely personal.
So, you guys… Any interesting date ideas? Would you ever have a Youtube date night? Let us know in the comments!
